Happy New Year
The Grove Gatherings, the NAMM Show & Sao Paulo, Brazil
As I think about this last year and all I have seen the Lord do in people's lives as well as in my life I am humbled and I am happy. With each passing year that the Lord gives me, my value for LIVING - being fully present with those I love, the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, family & friends and those God is loving through me is replacing DOING things for those I love. Before, doing things made me feel alive and loved. Now, being alive and present in my heart with God alone, knowing He is loving me right where I'm at, apart from performance is transforming me and now, my flow of activity is from the place of being loved. Easier said than done ....all I'm sayin.
The Grove Gathering
This community of artists has grown to a few hundred now here in Southern California. We continue to see about 50 artists come together each and every month. So many rich stories of how the Lord is changing and growing our hearts. The work of these artists is astounding, be it a gallery showing, a music recording, a weekend worship service, a book, a film, a photograph. As those who love and are being loved by God, the state and condition of our HEARTS color everything we do, especially our expression of art.
Just a couple scriptures that come to mind are "man looks on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart." It's where He loves us, "because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." It's where Christ abides with us, "so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love ..." I can go on and on with how God, through His scriptures and through the Holy Spirit is saying over and over again, "please pay attention to your heart."
This year, we as a community will be focussing, paying attention & learning to live & love from our hearts. I invite you to join us.
The NAMM Show is here once again.
An annual convention of every musical instrument manufacturer and the artists who play them converge on Anaheim California. I've been attending for close to 20 years and every year is filled with many divine conversations right on the NAMM Showroom floor. Amidst the chaos and cacophony of sound resounding throughout the convention center, we somehow find deep conversation, laughter and even His Presence. I'm so looking forward to what stories will come from this year's NAMM Show.
Sao Paulo, Brazil
January 26th - February 5th I will be sharing my heart with a few hundred worship leaders over 4 days in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I am humbled once again to find myself being invited internationally to minister to hearts of artists in the worship community. I will also be able to have my wife Christine and son Connor join me in this adventure. In a church culture who is increasingly distracted with performance it seems the Lord continues to speak to peoples hearts through me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for great music. I believe it's simply fantastic communication that can reach into the hearts and souls of men & women. But I continue to see a disproportionate emphasis on the performance with the assumption that the hearts of those who are performing are continually soaking in the Love of God. It was said of King David that he led Israel with skillfulness of hand and integrity of heart. I believe this is a picture for us of how to live as an artist, as a worship leader, as a son, as a daughter.
A couple truths that come to mind are, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." And the very tough worship community scripture, "Away with your songs of praise, these people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me." He wants our hearts! All of it. Pray for our time in Brazil and that the Love of God will flow through my heart and out of my mouth and into their hearts.
