A week ago we were in Redding CA taking our son Trevor up there for his first year at BSSM, Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. (That experience could be a whole newsletter in itself.) While there, Christine picked up a book, "Encountering God through Dance." In her book, Saara Taina shared a truth that really spoke to me as a creative and as one who is called to mentor and pastor creatives.
In a chapter titled "Setting the Artists Free from Captivity" she sights Jeremiah 24 where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had conquered and taken over Judah. Nebuchadnezzar had taken the king of Judah, the officials, the craftsmen, and the artisans into exile. It's pretty obvious why he wanted to take the king and the officials, but why bother dragging along the craftsmen and the artisans? Aren't they quite an insignificant bunch of people for this king among his enemies? No, not at all! Creativity is very powerful. Artists also have a significant role in the Kingdom of God. I think the enemy still has the same strategy to take the leaders and the artists in the Kingdom captive.
Jeremiah 24:6-7 "My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back into this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know Me, that I AM the Lord. They will be My people and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with all their heart."
Many artists are still living "in exile." I'm not only talking about professional dancers, actors, musicians, singers, songwriters, fine artists, visual artists, filmmakers, etc. The enemy wants to steal the creative potential from every one of us. I believe that artists are returning to the light of God's Kingdom and there will be a great revival among them. Artists who are filled with the Holy Spirit will be carriers of God's presence and catalysts for revival all over the world.
Restoration of creativity can only come through finding a new intimacy with God. When we experience and receive God's love in a personal way, new creativity will be released from that place.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Roy goes to England! Thank you to those of you from The Grove Community who have sent me to England. I will be meeting and ministering with many artists at an event called David's Tent. I'll be there hanging with Joe & Jesslan Urquhart and my other British friends. Pray for me as I will be there August 25-Sept 4.
Trevor starts his first year at BSSM,
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry! He is in an apartment with 3 other students, 2 from India. Of the 1200 students, close to 700 are coming from other countries! God's favor is on this kid. He is already making great friendships up there. In this picture, Trevor is at SoundHouseStudios where Jesus Culture and Bethel Music record their songs. Please pray for Trevor and pray for his mom & dad & brother as we all adjust to this new season.
We attended a few services at Bethel while in Redding. Connor's comment after the first worship time, "OMG, it sounds as powerful as the stinkin recording but with fire!"
When in Redding a visit to The Coffee Bar is one of the few third wave places to get a cup THIS good. It also seems to be where you will run into those in the worship ministry.
Love on San Diego
What if . . . on one day all over San Diego on rooftops, restaurants, nightclubs & out in the streets artists used their gifts to honor God and bless people . . . what could that look like? What if we, as God's kids were extremely generous on that same day . . buying the person behind you at the grocery store their groceries, at the restaurant, their meal, at the hot dog stand, their lunch.
A few friends with this heart and vision have invited us into join them and we are honored and excited. I will be letting you know of how you can join us too!
Here are a couple clips put together by Trevor & Connor

The Grove Worship Leader Getaway Big Bear, CA What happens when 12 artists getaway together for 3 days in a beautiful house in the mountains, eat wonderfully prepared meals together, share their hearts with one another & take some time alone with God? Great things!
AMAZING August Grove Gathering!
Tim Timmons so artfully shared his music, his story and most powerfully his heart and posture towards our God and the Kingdom. Additionally, Martin Neil from the UK shared about the importance of you being you from his international perspective. One of our most memorable and impacting Gatherings we can remember. Oh ... and food was also OFF THE HOOK!

God continues to stir up our creativity towards asking the question, "how might we better cultivate the spiritual lives and creative work of artists?" As stated in my news, Artists have a significant role in the Kingdom of God. How important is it that we encourage and sow into them to become fully alive to God and to who He created them to be? Our vision is to see these artists step into THEIR destinies as sons and daughters of the King who happen to be extremely gifted creatively.
