cultivating the spiritual growth & creative work of artists

Hey Friends,

Thought I’d drop you a quick note this afternoon. Tomorrow morning I get on a plane bound for Nashville for 9 days of ministry AND I have a NEW website I want to share with you here in the newsletter.

That’s Trevor Cochran’s band, “PAPERDAY’s” gear at the “Battle of The Bands” at Trevor’s high school.

My son Trevor and his band just played their first live gig outside of the garage at his high school’s Battle of the Bands. I was so happy for him on a number of levels. First of all, he and his band mates have been woodshedding and putting in the hours rehearsing and writing music in the garage. To see the fruit of their investment into what they are passionate about was so cool to witness. Better yet, I really like their music! As his Father, there are some things I am excited about for him. First, my son is an artist. He is gifted in film, photography & music. To see him stepping more into his giftedness and seeing the fruit of his investment into his art is a thrill for dad. Mostly because Trevor seems most fulfilled and happy, most ALIVE when he’s growing in his gifting. The additional fruit is that people are blessed by his music or art. His growing relationship with Christ is also seasoning his music and the relationships he has with his bandmates. We are seeing his giftedness blossom because of his intentional investment of time into his creative work and his spiritual growth . . . and he’s just getting started! What gifts have God given to YOU as an important part of the body of Christ? How are you doing on sowing or investing and developing the gift of WHO YOU ARE in Christ? It’s more important than you probably realize. I encourage you to ask a couple close friends who know you these important questions about yourself. Ask the Lord also in prayer. Then invest into WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST. After all, “he who sows sparingly, reaps sparingly.”

Ephesians 5:15-20 • He (Jesus) is the one who gave these gifts to the church; the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.

The Worship Mentor Gathering

...having conversations with artists about their life in Christ, about pouring their lives into others artists, AKA mentoring or discipleship and about the kingdom importance of their creative work. I would very much welcome and ask for your prayers for me during my time in Nashville, that I would carry God’s heart and mind toward all who I speak and pray with.

would you consider being part of my financial team? • Sowing in this way allows me to invest my life into this very influential people group known as artists. People who are a huge part of our worship life and who can tell the story of God’s love in so many inspiring ways through music, books, movies, visual art, a language every culture speaks. I am sending this letter to you because you are a friend who I believe has and will continue to pray for me. I’d like to invite you to ask the Lord about being part of my financial support network and join us in this ministry.
